A lighter camera bag – 5

Any new camera takes a little getting used to.

This is certainly been true with the Fujifilm X-T1, I did say in my last post I was thinking of sending the camera back because I was unhappy with the way which it did or did not do things. I’m still amazed at how well it can do things and conversely I’m still incredulous at how badly it does things.

For example this shot taken in the crypt of Winchester Cathedral is handheld 1/20th of a second, 6400 ISO (no noise reduction). I have also got shots taken in Bristol docks of speedboats with the focus and a shutter speed of 10fps that are sharp.

Conversely I have take pictures of foliage and green leaves which are not moving and do not get a sharp picture and it cannot be camera shake. I think this is all to do with the lack of cohesion between Fuji and Adobe in the post-processing software. It’s a well-known fact that Adobe has been working on the demosaicing of the Fuji files for sometime now. Hopefully sometime in the near future they will get it right.

Just to give you a bit more information on the Fuji problem with foliage I’ve included some text from a friend of mine Gordon James FRPS who has thought around the subject.

“Yes, there are some issues regarding sharpening, especially on vegetation that is slightly outside the depth of field. The so-called ‘painterly effect’. I have examples! However, they seem to be fairly restricted to those non-linear subjects (especially of green!) and mainly if LR sharpening is pushed too hard. In my case they are also really only apparent at 100% viewing.”

 

So the camera is staying.
