Yew Trees – Painswick Churchyard – Gloucestershire October 2014
The picture above is homage to a big influence of mine Bill Brandt who was not frightened to use solid blacks in his prints. Click here to see more of Bills wonderful work.

In the sytle of Bill Brandt without question. If the sky were darker it would remind me of his work around Halifax.

Hi I am doing a lecture tour in Yorkshire in January so I will have chance to go to that ramp hopefully when the cobbles are wet. Andy

You should drop in to Dean Clough Mills. Last time I was there they had a few Bill Brandt originals hung in one of the Galleries. Although that was a few years back.

I use a Bill Brandt picture in my talks and often comment that he wouldn’t do well in a camera club competition due to the lack of shadow detail. Its heretical to some judges and partly why I don’t do competitions any more.

Thanks for your comments that is exactly the reason why I gave competitive photography many years ago. Andy

Absolutely wonderful image, Andy – and the colours in the sky (toning?) really make it. I’m also a huge Brandt fan. Adrian
