Lamp Post 39

I have recently joined a Meet up Group that helps groups of people with shared interests plan events in various localities around the world. See

There may be a similar group in your town or location.

I joined the Bristol Photography Group last month and went to my first meeting on Saturday afternoon. As a professional photographer I probably spend about 1% of my time taking pictures. Most of my time is spent in front of my computer doing accounts, writing and processing pictures.

So this little group gives me regular opportunities to get off my bum (butt for my American readers) socialise and take a few pictures at the same time.

I rarely go in to the centre of Bristol to take pictures, all the visitors to the city say what a beautiful city Bristol is. When you have lived somewhere all your life its easy for familiarity to breed contempt.

If you want to get around this syndrome – make a list of twenty places that are near you but haven’t got around to taking pictures there – yet. I made a list last year – not many places are ticked off. Because places are close you will have the opportunity to visit them in different lighting conditions.

The picture above – “Lamp post 39” was done by letting depth of field work for you – 100mm lens, minimum focus at f5.6.

A big hello to all the new followers to my little blog this week.

Good idea Andy about joining some sort of group to get you out and about!
I like the lamp post , its position in the frame and the vague figure on the left.
I admire your vision and ability to make ‘something’ out of nothing. It is all around us but seeing its photo potential is another matter.
