Pensford Railway Viaduct in North Somerset, now disused as part of the Bristol to Radstock Line. I think the last of the Radstock Coal Mines closed in the 1960’s along with the railway line that took the coal to Bristol docks.
It was a bit misty this morning so I ventured out as this is only ten minutes in the car from home.
I was interested in the shape of the car tyres in the foreground and the underside of the viaduct arches.
Compositionally this fulfils the golden rule for the use of a wide-angle lens – fill the foreground with something interesting. My 12mm lens is about 6″ away from the car tyres.
I am thinking about Bill Brandt type shots for an up and coming exhibition in May so there may a theme occurring on the blog.

Hi Lesley yes a 12mm lens does tend to get most things in. I went back to the same place today and tried a 20mm f1.8 and a 16mm on my IR camera. I felt the 20mm too telephoto for what I wanted. I have printed 3 of the IR shots that might get in a talk or exhibition. Thanks for commenting its appreciated. Andy

Hi Gaby thanks for dropping by and leaving a kind comment. You tend to get rather odd angles when you use a 12mm very wide-angle lens from a position 18″ off the ground and very close to a foreground subject. I went back there this morning and used a Right Angle Finder so I am looking down on the camera instead of try to peer through it whilst crouching down. The Finder might be useful with a little adaption and if I can stop it misting up! Regards Andy

A great composition, and that really is as good as foreground as one could wish for. Strange you should mention Bill Brandt. I was at the V&A photography gallery – and one of Bill’s famous beach images was on the wall.

Hi Andy thanks for the comment, I have always been aware of the Railway viaduct but the car tyre racing circuit? foreground was a really pleasant suprise.
Glad to see you are keeping up with Bill – the nude beach shots I thnk were taken at Berling Gap near Bournmouth / Beach Head Way. Regards Andy
